When it Rains it Pours, but I have yet to See the Flood

I've been very, very busy, not only with a summer class but with my internship at AMI (Applachian Media Institute which is a program by Appalshop) I hope to show some videos that I help make, but you'll have to wait until I can find them online. No worries.

Right now I"m trying to find a few places that would like to show my art that are in the area. I've email the BSCTCS, which I believe is now called KCTCS...but their website name hasn't changed. I hope to hear back from them in a couple of days. I"m going to send a email to Pikeville College/ Artisan Center to see if they would like to as well.

I've been in a slump for awhile. I've not drawn much or anything, the ENGAGE Convergence inspired me to draw while I was there, but when I left I didn't really feel like drawing and I also became fairly busy with my internship. One day I went into Summit City, ordered my food and sat down at a table and started to doodle, like usual. A woman (whose name is Kay) came and started to compliment my artwork. There began my small doses of inspiration, she complimented me, made requests to do a drawing in her bar's sketch pad. She got me into wanting to draw again. Sadly, I have nothing to show..for the moment. I'm still busy with my internship so there won't be much until the end of July. I gave Kay, one of my sketches (it was framed). It was token of my appreciation.

Last thing I'll list today is of the sketch that I showed long, long time ago.

Okay, that is the doodle I showed long, long time ago. Surprisingly, I finished it during the ENGAGE Convergence. So here is the finished piece....

Morning, Oh, how Sleepy they can be...

It’s cold, literally cold, the room I sit in is freezing oddly though the outside world is warm. Almost fits for a metaphor, doesn’t? I’ve been trying to get my facebook to upload photos but that doesn’t seem to be happening at the moment sadly…. I’m trying to be productive with the drawings I’ve been sketching/doodling. As well to one work in progress. I’ve been hit with the art bug but I don’t think I’ll get the alone time to work on my recent ideas or the thoughts running through my head.

I’m an artist, a visual artist. I’m mainly traditional..I”m big fan of messy stuff mainly charcoal, ink, and the lovely pastels, but from time to time. I’ll dabble in paint; mainly watercolor. My artwork is very expressive, that I hope everyone can have some form of a connection with that piece. My artwork mainly uses playful characters/objects but the situation, or subject matter will be quite serious. I hope to have some posted for you later on. I’m also a kid who loves the mountains, and the people in Eastern, Ky. I hope to come back to this place and help out in my community.

Right now in my life and time…I’m a college student who is on summer break, and taking a summer class…. I”m also in two internships…the first is with the ENGAGE program, sadly because of things going on at home I can’t give much to the internship, but they have been nice and kind to keep me included. My second internship is with Appalshop, the program is called Appalachian Media Institute…which starts late June. I hope to give you more entertaining information later on. Thanks for sticking around and reading, I hope you continue the reading of my further adventures.

Devoured by the Devotion

Beauty of Transforming

The art, yes the art……well drawings that I’ve done and started to produce in small sizes so w00t for me. Devoured by devotion is a piece that I’ve worked on and off for a couple of weeks. I finished the piece when I went to Mountain Justice Camp on Pine Mountain. This piece goes with the Human Naturism Series that deal with humans connections, and disconnection to nature and the attempt to re-root, and to bond back with nature.

Swinging in the Abyss

This is a drawing drew from shear boredom at a game Bingo about a week or so ago…. the people at the Bingo really liked it…after I put clothes on her anyway… I believe that is the reason I bingo for a 160 dollars. I can’t really complain, and I”m not going too..lol

The image below is a work in progress so keep checking back to see the updates on the piece.

Existence isn't much without Proof

I've received my new laptop....so amazing. I don't have much to report other than my knew laptop is very sweet, in design and performance. Now I have to debate if I really want to get rid of my laptop that is in my University program or keep it, the main and only reason I want to keep it is because the screen flips an you can use it as a tablet. Anywho I have my new laptop to use for my internships....*woot*

Life is going at the moment, seems pretty good but you know I don't want to jinx it. I"m sorry for this horribly, horribly short blog BUT I do have some images to show which are by the way peices I worked on with the tablet laptop so have fun!

Packages are a Hassle when They don't Exist

So I've order a new laptop, it's a mini an is a tad expensive, yes but I believe worth it. UPS has apparently gave it to local post office, which means I can no longer be a creeper and watch the epicness of it being delivered to me, plus it may take longer. It seems that when we expect something we become impatient or at the very least time slows down; merciless for receiving....
Now I have to wait...again.

On to next piece of information is that I have art to show, just not online. Oddly, enough I've made some artwork, sketches etc...but all are in my locker in Morehead which is two hours away from where I reside during the summer a.k.a my home., but I do have a few digitals (yay!) just not on this computer.....it's on my laptop that is being held hostage at my sister's place. I do have an external hard drive that may have some new art, or at least artwork you haven't, but I'm going to be leaving so I don't have time to add it to this blog. If I find my camera, or fix my scanner/printer (that fell when I sprung my ankle), then I give you sketches from my notebook. =] We'll have to see how it goes...

I will give you a doodle though that I did during a visiting artist lecture...only at the beginning, later it got better, or I woke up, one of the two..maybe, possibly both.

If You Rock Back Enough You'll Fall

Okay, so this is a random blog moment. More of what I"m looking for for Graduate schools.... I still have two years left but looking at one two Universities; their deadlines don't fall the same as those for when I applied to be an undergrad. Any who, I've been contemplating/indecisive about Gard school, as in major and so forth.

I'm wanting to do so much with my art, and now I want to help out my community here in Floyd County. Primarily in Mud Creek (holler with mini hollers so to speak.) First, before doing so I want to leave and travel as well to get outside help. I'm starting to rant I know just bare with me folks. I'm wanting to be an Art Historian. My love in art history is that of culture.. indigenous cultures for instances Americas, Africa etc. This goes into a section called Non-Western Art. Noting my luck that this concentration is very rare apparently, but I feel that I shouldn't specialize in a certain culture until PhD time which is far, far, far down the road.

I'm still looking for Universities for which in Fall 2011 that I'll be applying to for Graduate school.
At the moment I'm still looking and researching just seeing what's there for me. So far these are the Universities I found interesting or want to find more about, as well to live there or to at least visit.

University of Maryland
University of New Mexico
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
University of Virginia

If you know anything about them or any universities I should check out, please let me know. Like I said random, but important I think.

A Sinking Ship in a Waterless Ditch

I should become a magician, since I have the ability to perform many vanishing acts. Summer has set in and I have one class during, and two internships during my summer (one at a time of course). I have plenty of sketches, and a few pieces of art to show, and a writing sample. The past semester has once again been a busy one. I've been working, learning, and avoiding melt-downs. I've been titled with the Most Outstanding Sophomore Art Award. Given plenty travel opportunities and a new fellowship to try in the Fall. I don't want to over power you in one session, so I'll do my best not to, if you want to know of my travels to St. Louis, Asheville, and/or Baltimore, just say so and I"ll give you a new post about it., but on with the "now".

My aunt is in the Hospital for many different things, it seems to change every day. Hopefully she will be out and walking around the Holler like her usual self. I've sprang/sprung my ankle (yay!), it gets easier everytime. Now I'm waiting for the June first to come by and to start my finance class and my ENGAGE internship. I'll talk about this and my other internship later.

So now that you have a re-cap (somewhat) I can continue this blog and hopefully with a consistency. So here goes one or two pieces. Enjoy!

This piece and the piece below it are work in progresses the top one I finished and is now sitting in my lokcer in the Art Building. The bottom one I never finished and on the last day of checking out of the dorms. I left it and two other pieces for any of the Resident Advisers to take. I do know that this one was taken by one. =] One out of three isn't bad in my book. I'll give you more information of my semester and the upcoming fun as well.

Secrets are Secrets that Beg for an Audience.

Last night I went with a good friend of mine to a Post Secret event at EKU. I had a splendid time, it was an awakening that my heart needed to jump back into the world. I have many secrets to share that I want to share but that fear of judgment and looks to be given has stopped me like many but after last night I"m going to walk out of my shadows and let my secrets be known.

I want to start something in my community such as post secret. I want to be able to help myself and the society I live in. Hopefully, I'll get some ideas on what to do to help. If you have any suggestions feel free to share. =]
